What We Need is Close at Hand

By Pastor John Brito

God places what we need each day close at hand. But we don?t always see it. There are two examples in the story of Moses that stand out. The first is found in Exodus 15:22-25:

Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23?When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. 24?And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, ?What shall we drink?? 25?And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. (ESV)

That log didn?t magically appear. It was already there, close at hand. But Moses would never have made the connection between that log and the bitter waters becoming sweet. It wasn?t until he prayed that God showed him the log and instructed him to throw it into the bitter waters.

The second example comes from an exchange between God and Moses. God was calling Moses to go before Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to tell him to let the people of Israel go free. But Moses resisted and gave God the excuse that he was not good with words; he even begged God to send anyone else but him. God became angry and said, ?All right? What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well. And look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you.15?Talk to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with both of you as you speak, and I will instruct you both in what to do.?? (Exodus 4:13-15, NLT)

You see, God knew that Moses would resist the calling on his life, and he was also aware of Moses? insecurity in the area of public speaking. So God moved Aaron?s heart beforehand to go see his brother Moses. Moses didn?t know it, but what he needed was already on its way.

This is how God operates. Whatever we need is close at hand or on its way. All we have to do is ask God to open our eyes that we may see it.
